Cross Section Of Spinal Cord At Thoracic Level
Cross sectional anatomy of spinal cord.
Cross section of spinal cord at thoracic level. In the regions of cervical enlargement and lumbar enlargement the cross sectional area is larger than in the rest of the spinal cord. The gray matter is said to be arranged in the shape of a butterfly or somewhat like the letter h. The thoracic spine sits between the cervical spine in the neck.
It is largest at the c4 c5 and l4 l5 levels. A spinal needle is inserted between two vertebrae at level l3 l4 or l4 l5 where there is no risk of accidental injury to the spinal cord which ends at l1 to l2. At the back are two dorsal horns and away from the back are two ventral horns.
Cross sectional perspective of the spinal cord regions the spinal cord is divided into cervical thoracic and lumbar regions. The spine in the upper back and abdomen is known as the thoracic spine. Right cellular stain vary con siderably.
Cross sections of the spinal cord. The cervical region is divided into eight levels that are related to different motor and sensory functions in the neck and the arms. Looking at a cross section of the spinal cord you would see gray matter shaped like a butterfly surrounded by white matter.
The gray matter is the core and ends up to be four projections that are known as horns. It is one of the three major sections of the spinal column. The upper diagram is a cross section through the spinal cord at the c8 level the eighth cervical segmental level of the spinal cord not the vertebral level see figure 1.
