Sectionalism Slavery
Only a minority of southern whites owned slaves.
Sectionalism slavery. In some seaboard areas slavery by 1850 was well over 200 years old. Sectionalism is loyalty or support of a particular region or section of the nation rather than the united states as a whole. It was an integral part of the basic economy of the region.
Slavery was particularly sectional issue dividing the country into north and south to the extent that it led to the civil war. This phenomenon occurs in all parts of the world. Slavery separatism throughout the early 1800 s the country was split in many areas over many issues.
For the most part southerners supported slavery and northerners opposed it. The easiest way to define sectionalism is as the loyalty of a person to a specific region or a section of a country and not the entire country. The tensions between the north and the south resulted in the civil war which finally brought an end to slavery.
