Act math sections. The act mathematics test is designed to test your ability to reason mathematically to understand basic mathematical terminology and to recall basic mathematical formulas and principles. On each section of the act the number of correct answers converts to a scaled score of 1 36 act works hard to adjust the grading scale of each test at each administration as necessary to make all scaled scores comparable smoothing out any differences in level of difficulty across test dates. Since the composite score is the average of students four scores across english math reading and science a higher retest score in any of these subject areas will increase the overall test average. This score will be averaged with the scores from the other multiple choice sections english science reasoning and reading to arrive at your composite act score. There are a total of 215 multiple choice questions on the act test.

The math section of the act is the second section on the test. Some schools may require the writing test so be sure to ask before you register for the act. An actual act mathematics test contains 60 questions to be answered in 60 minutes.

Every question is multiple choice and there is no penalty for guessing. It follows the english section and precedes a 10 minute break. Just like the other multiple choice test sections the act math section can earn you between 1 and 36 points.
